...A welcoming place

Pledge total update: $142,000!

At the semi-annual congregational meeting in June, there was a unanimous vote to embark on a building remodel project for our front entrance. This project proposal is a celebration of the ways our ministries have continued to expand and change, and the need to have a building that supports our mission. The remodel will address accessibility and storage issues, as well as providing a solution for the constant icing/overhang problem of the front steps. The proposed design is inspired by the architectural renderings for the church after the 1974 fire destroyed the original building. A building fund has been established; the estimate for the remodel is @$150-200,000. Contributions are welcome. Questions and comments may be directed to the Building Committee co-chairs Ken Koelsch and Kris Ritter, or committee members Linda Mickle, Loretta Mosley, Dan Squires, Loren Rasmussen, and Finn Larsen.

"For which of you, intending to build a tower (entrance) does not first sit down and estimate the cost, to see whether he has enough to complete it."

At this time of the year, I often think back to my growing up on our family farm in Michigan. My parents and both sets of my grandparents had farms and September and October were the make or break it harvest times and so it is with the building renovation entrance project that was sown at the spring RLC Congregational meeting. We have establish the need for the project and how it meets RLC's mission statement. We have a potential time line laid out and a draft scope of work. We are now at the point of where the rubber hits the road. "For which of you, intending to build a tower (entrance) does not first sit down and estimate the cost, to see whether he has enough to complete it." Bill and Barbara Johnson have graciously stepped up to serve as finance chairs for the project. They will send out a letter at the end of September explaining the project and a pledge form. Please prayerfully consider the project and how it will support RLC's mission statement and make a pledge (even if you can't pledge, please turn in pledge form with a simple "not at this time" notation so we know you have received the opportunity). The project will likely end up somewhere between $175,000-$200,000 and the pledge period will cover the rest of 2011 and the first part of 2012. We can do: 20 pledges of $10,000 or more ($5,000 in 2011/$5,000 in2012) 40 pledges of $5,000 or more ($2,500 in 2011/$2,500 in 2012) 80 pledges of $2,500 or more ($1,250 in 2011/$1,250 in 2012) x pledges of $1 to $200,000 It is harvest time. It is time to make plans for the upcoming year. Please consider how you might be able to share the fruits of your harvest.
